The lovely little curate church consecrated to Saint Martin lies in a green valley, surrounded by big chestnuts.
A common root of the German name 'Glaning' can still be found in the word 'Glan' that in the dialect of the Passeier valley means cranberries. Therefore Glaning, that derives from Glaniga, Glania means 'cranberry place'. In the 16th century Glaning became a pilgrims town.
The Italian name of Glaning is Cologna.
Cologna is an ideal destination for a family trip, especially in summer and autumn (Törggelen), thanks to its mild climate and closeness to Bolzano.
